See, I don’t understand this last part. People aren’t cars or dishwashers. They are what they are and yes, their lives have been moulded by environment and upbringing and if they have had things happen in their lives that have permanently affected them, what gives anyone the right to expect them to conform, to ‘fix’ them? They are what they are and it’s up to everyone to not treat them as if they must be ‘fixed’ to be part of society or to shore up our own discomfort with not knowing how to handle people who are different. I can’t imagine how offensive it might be to have someone assume it’s their responsibility to change someone in this way. Don’t change people, change the way you look and interact with them. Just my two cents.
